Empowering Sarawak’s Teachers to Lead Ethical AI Education

1. About the Programme

Didik AI Sarawak is an initiative to empower teachers across Sarawak to become ethical AI practitioners and digital innovators. It aligns with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) to improve education quality, bridge the digital divide and build future-ready human capital.

The programme is jointly organised by Humanlogica with strategic support from the Sarawak State Education Department. It also collaborates with local universities such as UNIMAS and Curtin Malaysia to ensure relevant, high-quality training.

The AI revolution is reshaping global education. This programme equips Sarawak’s teachers with current AI knowledge, skills, and ethics to enhance teaching and learning, ensuring no teacher—especially in rural or special-needs contexts—is left behind.

2. Participants & Eligibility

The programme targets primary and secondary school teachers from both urban and rural schools across Sarawak. Each school nominates three teachers annually (ICT coordinators, assistant head teachers, or those interested in educational technology are prioritised).

Approximately 1,000 teachers per year from about 1,459 schools in Sarawak.

Yes. One of the programme’s objectives is to empower OKU teachers to engage with AI, in line with inclusive education principles.

3. Programme Structure & Content

It runs in three phases:

  • Phase 1 – 2-Day Intensive Workshop: AI & ethics lectures, hands-on practice, group activities.

  • Phase 2 – School-Based AI Project: 3-month mini project with online coaching and peer sharing.

  • Phase 3 – Summit & Exhibition: Recognition, networking, and project showcase in Kuching.

Topics include 21st-century pedagogy, AI fundamentals and ethics, lesson planning with AI, Canva AI tools, project design, and integrating AI into teaching and reflection.

Yes. Teachers receive online coaching, templates, WhatsApp community support, and materials to implement AI projects in their schools.

4. Assessment & Recognition

Through pre- and post-tests, project reports to district education offices (PPD), and impact evaluation.

Certificates of completion, potential appointment as state-level Master Trainers, and opportunities to showcase and pitch their projects at the annual summit. Awards include Best Project, Best Collaboration, Best Student Innovation, and Best Pitching Presentation.

5. Logistics & Funding

Venue rental, meals, printed materials, technical logistics, training kits, travel and accommodation for participants, facilitator allowances, online platforms (Zoom/LMS), and ongoing technical support.

In three zones of Sarawak – North (Miri, Bintulu, Limbang, Lawas), Central (Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Sarikei), and South (Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong). The summit will be held in Kuching.

6. Outcomes & Long-Term Impact

To create a network of ethical, AI-literate teachers across Sarawak who can lead innovation in classrooms, reduce the urban-rural digital gap, and prepare students for a data-driven future, in line with PCDS 2030.

Students will gain exposure to ethical and innovative AI use in learning, experience more engaging lessons, and develop digital skills essential for the future workforce.
